Compressed Air Treatment
and Drying

Quality, reliability and efficiency for industrial pneumatic systems

Solutions for compressed air quality and management

Fluid System is an official distributor of compressed air treatment and drying solutions from leading manufacturers such as SMC and Camozzi. The offering covers components and systems designed to ensure air quality, operational reliability and effective integration into industrial pneumatic systems.

Compressed air quality in industrial pneumatic systems is commonly classified according to ISO 8573, which defines admissible levels of solid particles, water and oil in the air. Filtration, regulation and drying systems enable the quality classes required by different industrial applications to be achieved. Correct compressed air treatment is essential to preserve the operation of valves, actuators and pneumatic equipment. Solid impurities, moisture and oil residues can cause premature wear, inefficiencies and downtime. The solutions supplied by Fluid System stabilise air operating conditions, improve operational continuity and reduce maintenance requirements.

Air treatment and drying systems are used on automated machines, production lines and industrial systems. They can be configured as individual components or as assembled FRL units, installed directly on the machine or along the air distribution network.

Types of components for Compressed Air Treatment

FILTERS AND FILTER UNITS

Filters and bowls with filter elements remove solid particles, water and contaminants from compressed air, protecting downstream components and improving system reliability.

PRESSURE REGULATORS AND FILTER-REGULATORS

Regulators and filter-regulators keep operating pressure constant even when load conditions vary, contributing to process stability and protection of pneumatic equipment.

LUBRICATORS

Lubricators introduce a controlled quantity of oil into compressed air, reducing friction and component wear in systems that require lubrication.

MANAGEMENT AND SAFETY VALVES

3/2 shut-off valves, soft-start valves, pressure exhaust valves and safety valves enable safe management of the pneumatic supply, reducing risks during start-up, maintenance and shutdown.

MONITORING INSTRUMENTS

Pressure gauges, pressure switches, vacuum switches, flow sensors and mounting accessories enable operating parameters to be checked and system condition to be monitored.

AIR DRYERS

Drying removes moisture from compressed air, preventing corrosion, condensate formation and damage to pneumatic components, while improving air quality and operational continuity.

> FOCUS
Compressed air drying

Compressed air drying plays a particularly critical role in air treatment, as it directly affects process quality, system reliability and long-term operating costs. Residual moisture can cause corrosion, contamination and malfunction of pneumatic components.

For this reason, Fluid System provides specific technical focus on the main compressed air drying technologies, selecting efficient solutions that comply with European regulations, also in terms of environmental sustainability and reduced energy consumption.

Refrigerated air dryers

Refrigerated air dryers cool compressed air until moisture condenses, after which it is removed through automatic drainage. These solutions provide a stable pressure dew point of +3 °C, depending on the model and operating conditions, and are suitable for most general industrial applications.

Membrane dryers

Membrane dryers use hollow polymer fibres to separate water vapour from compressed air. They do not require an electrical supply, making them suitable for decentralised installations or direct installation at the point of use.

Comparison of the main compressed air treatment functions

Function Main components Role in the system Operational benefits
Filtration Filters / filter elements Removal of solid and liquid impurities Protection of pneumatic components
Regulation Regulators / filter-regulators Pressure stabilisation Operational continuity / precision
Lubrication Lubricators Friction reduction Longer component life
Management and safety Shut-off / soft-start / exhaust valves Supply control and safety Reduced risks and downtime
Drying Refrigerated and membrane dryers Moisture removal Corrosion and failure prevention
Monitoring Pressure gauges / pressure switches / flow sensors Operating parameter control Preventive maintenance
Application codes and recurring configurations

When selecting or replacing compressed air treatment components, codes such as MX2-3/8-L00 are frequently searched, often also entered as MX2 3/8 L00 or MX23/8L00. This code refers to a Camozzi MX series lubricator used in the configuration of FRL units and modular air treatment systems for industrial pneumatic applications.
